چکیده

Background In pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), increased vascular resistance causes functional and structural changes in the right ventricle (RV), ultimately leading to right heart failure and death. Predictors of patient survival include RV cardiac index (RVCI) and pulmonary vascular resistance (PVR). First-pass contrast bolus hemodynamics, such as cardiopulmonary transit time (PTT), full-width-half-maximum (FWHM), and time-to-peak, have been associated with left ventricular (LV) function; however, their relation to RV function and pulmonary hemodynamics as well as their significance in PAH have not been investigated.

Effect of thoracic epidural blockade on hypoxia-induced pulmonary arterial hypertension in rats

Objective(s): The present study was aimed to investigate the influence of thoracic epidural blockade on hypoxia-induced pulmonary hypertension in rats. Materials and Methods: Forty eight Wistar rats were randomly divided into 4 equal groups, named normoxia hypoxia hypoxia/ ropivacaine and hypoxia/saline. Animals were placed in a hypoxia chamber and instrumented with epidural catheters at the t...

Arrhythmias in Patients With Pulmonary Hypertension; A Narrative Review of the Current Literature

Incidence and prognostic relevance of supraventricular arrhythmias were evaluated in nine studies. These studies investigated patients with different forms of pulmonary hypertension. Supraventricular arrhythmias were more often found in patients with group two pulmonary hypertension. Common findings in these patients were elevated right atrial pressure and diameters and reduced tricuspid annula...

Evaluation of Advanced Echocardiographic Parameters of Right Ventricular in Patients with Pulmonary Hypertension

Background and Objective: Pulmonary hypertension is an increase in blood pressure of the pulmonary artery which leads to right ventricular dysfunction. Therefore, the present study aimed to compare echocardiographic parameters in the study of right ventricular failure in patients with pulmonary hypertension. Materials and Methods: In the present descriptive cross-sectional study, data were col...

Therapeutic hypercapnia prevents chronic hypoxia-induced pulmonary hypertension in the newborn rat.

Induction of hypercapnia by breathing high concentrations of carbon dioxide (CO(2)) may have beneficial effects on the pulmonary circulation. We tested the hypothesis that exposure to CO(2) would protect against chronic pulmonary hypertension in newborn rats. Atmospheric CO(2) was maintained at <0.5% (normocapnia), 5.5%, or 10% during exposure from birth for 14 days to normoxia (21% O(2)) or mo...

Overexpression of the 5-hydroxytryptamine transporter gene: effect on pulmonary hemodynamics and hypoxia-induced pulmonary hypertension.

BACKGROUND Increased serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine, 5-HT) transporter activity has been observed in human familial pulmonary hypertension. METHODS AND RESULTS We investigated pulmonary hemodynamics and the development of hypoxia-induced pulmonary hypertension and pulmonary vascular remodeling in mice overexpressing the gene for the 5-HT transporter (5-HTT+ mice). Right ventricular pressure w...
